Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Addressing the trend toward minimalism and the fierce debates about the traditional role of craft in art, interior decoration, and architecture, this collection explores the controversy surrounding the intellectualization of the craft debate. Revealing how the upcoming generation of studio furniture makers views the history of the craft—and their place in it—the guide also examines methods used by painters and sculptors to apply craft values, Chinese antiques as inspiration, and new styles in the form and function of drawers.

5 out of 5 stars Another Fine Production   September 10, 2008

This is another fine book in this series. I enjoyed this one a bit more because it was more down-to-earth. Some of the others have a bit too much of the post-modernist, chairs-as-part-of-the-galactic-continuum hooey.

The subject covered are quite broad, from furiture as pure art to interviews with makers, to functional, every day furniture.

The photos are excellent. A lot of thought went into this production.

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in other craftsman's efforts to build furniture using original designs and materials we don't commonly see. I'm sure I'll return to it often.
